Biography

David Huyck grew up in the suburban flatlands north of Chicago. He and his brothers played with Legos, drew from Ed Emberly's how-to-draw books, watched a lot of cartoons and Muppets, and read "The Far Side" and "Calvin and Hobbes" obsessively. They used to play the stunningly complicated game, "What should I Draw?" It goes like this: first one asks, "What should I draw?", and the other replies, "A bear," and then a bear is drawn.

David still loves to read comics, watch cartoons, and let his imagination run rampant with his pen. Lately his imagination has also taken control of his mom's old sewing machine, and now it's dabbling with making comics and animation instead of just looking at them.

Just like with Legos or the "What Should I Draw?" game, David's work comes from playing, experimenting, inventing, and happy accidents. His images and toys always have a story to tell, but what may seem innocent on the first impression might not always be so. Just ask the cute little rabbits from his "Mmm, Bunny!" comic.
