Biography[edit]

Born in Los Angeles, Karyn Raz graduated from Brown University and the illustration program at Art Center College of Design. Growing up, Karyn would make color pencil renderings from fashion magazines and watch her artist mom working. “She made it seem fun and intriguing.” Karyn seeks that same feeling of joy and child-like exploration in her own work. Her acrylic and gouache paintings and ink drawings have been commissioned by clients such as the Village Voice and Hadassah Magazine, and recognized by the Society of Illustrators New York and Society of Illustrators Los Angeles and the Society of Children’s Book Writer’s and Illustrators. Karyn tries to get at the essence of her subjects with a blend of honesty and humor, and is inspired by folk and outsider art, tarot cards, daydreams, and children’s art. She lives in Santa Monica, CA with her husband and daughter.
