Biography

The kind of art I've always been drawn to has had both an element of realism, and a strong sense of mood or atmosphere. With my art, I want to both detail the subjects to a degree of believability in terms of lighting or anatomy, but also emphasize mood by including elements of surrealism, and situations or atmospheres that couldn't exist in reality. I tend to respond to the feel or raw emotion that a piece of art gives off, without knowing specifically what that mood really is. When a painting has a strong mood, without being too specific, I think it lets you bring your own interpretation and have a more personal response to it. It's this type of sophistication that I work to achieve in my art. I never know if I've really gotten there, which helps me to continue trying to new subjects, compositions, or surreal twists to convey mood, without giving away too much.
