Biography

Teresa was born in Kanagawa, Japan, and spent her high school and college days in Sydney, Australia, where she graduated from Sydney Graphic College with B.A. in Design. After coming back to Japan, she worked as a graphic designer in an IT company for four years, and later became a freelance designer/illustrator.

Many of Teresa’s works are created in the motif of Kabuki which she has chosen as her theme among all the traditional stage arts. Kabuki, originally meaning ‘acting crazy’ was started by a girl, Okuni, who was a unique, stoic dancer with her own style. Teresa finds all the teenage girls in Kabuki are in love, passionate, brave, yet sensitive. She always tries to keep the pieces of their rock spirit combined with girly characteristics within her works, calling them ‘Kabuki Otome’, and encourages the girls today to find themselves in Kabuki, too.

Teresa is a tireless artist who works under the name of her production, ‘Production_Genmu’. She releases her artworks not only via illustrations and designs, but also in multiple methods such as Yukata (summer kimono), daily items and live performances. She also teaches digital illustration skills at the Tokyo Design Academy in Harajuku, Tokyo.
