Crying Maitreya

Known as one of the most influential filmmakers in the history of cinema, legendary Japanese director Akira Kurosawa was also a painter in his youth. His passion for painting was carried forward into his filmmaking career, hand-painting the storyboards for his movies.

Inspired by one of Akira Kurosawa’s famous artwork, this 10" Crying Maitreya is made from polystone and produced by Mighty Jaxx, beautifully realised in glorious 3D. The bronze-effect icon mimics the painterly style of Akira Kurosawa's original artwork, giving the sculpture a modern touch.
